Project Overviewx
Originally constructed in 1869 as the Trexler Mansion, named after the Trexler family who held a majority stake in the Reading Iron Works, supplying rails for the Reading Railroad, this splendid French Empire Revival residence was transformed in 1908 into Pennsylvania’s most illustrious Elks lodge. By 1978, maintaining such a majestic building became unsustainable, leading to the closure of the Elks Club. It lay dormant and fell into disrepair until 2023, when the Shuman Development Group commenced renovations to revive its former splendor.
