Project Overviewx
Built in 1904 as the Curtis and Jones shoe factory, and the sole manufacturer of the patent leather shoes for the American Girl Scouts, the building was abandoned in 1991 with the roof collapsing in 1999. In 2006, the city was discussing budgeting $1,500,000 to pay for razing the deteriorated structure when Shuman Development Group purchased the building as part of its Northeast Reading neighborhood revitalization plan.
An award-winning restoration began in 2013 that took three years and over $24,600,000. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, this beautifully restored structure boasts 69 loft apartments with amazing views from its huge 1189 historically accurate reproduction windows.
